When Did Everton Last Win a Trophy? Inside the Toffees’ 30-Year Wait for Silverware
By John Jones

Unfortunately Everton sits at the bottom of the current premier league teams in terms of the last trophy win. Their last trophy came in 1995.

Former Everton player Joe Royle dragged Everton clear of relegation and led the club to the FA Cup for the fifth time in their history by defeating Manchester United 1–0 in the final. With their last trophy being the FA Charity Shield (as it was known at the time) in the following seasons opener. The FA Cup triumph was also Everton's passport to the Cup Winners' Cup, their first European campaign in the post-Heysel era.

Since then however, it’s been troubling times for the Merseyside club. They spent the rest of the 90’s in a mediocre state, before the arrival of David Moyes. Moyes, helped by a then young star by the name of Wayne Rooney, helped Everton finish in the top half. A fourth-place finish in 2004–05 ensured that Everton qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. The team failed to make it through to the Champions League group stage and were then eliminated from the UEFA Cup.

Despite a few more UEFA Cup runs and breaking the club record for players multiple times the best they could achieve was a runners up place to Chelsea in the 2009 FA Cup.

After Moyes left to join Manchester United, Everton went through a rotation of famous names, including Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Carlo Ancellotti , Rafael Benitez, Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche to name a few. But despite the pedigree and honours those names brought with them, none could stop Everton’s trophy drought.

Now Moyes has returned to Everton, and they have moved from Goodison Park to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, fans are optimistic that the glory days are coming. However the reality is it could still be a long time before a trophy returns to the blue side of Liverpool.
